Theater X: CommUnity Culture against Corona Capitalism

We are worried. About ourselves, our colleagues, our communities, society and about those, who are most vulnerable to CoVid 19. We worry about the economic consequences creative artists and all workers will suffer. We are especially worried about  caregivers, nurses and doctors and those of us who are most vulnerable healthwise. We worry for our political cultural work, which we want to and must serve and we are worried  about the movements, which are necessary – allready because of Hanau or the political humanitarian situation on the borders of turkey and greece. The problems have not disappeared, on the contrary: they will sharpen and intensify. These are things on our mind and therefore we, at Theatre X, attempt to adapt our structure flexibly to a situation that changes momentarily. We are maintaining our structures in order to take care of our families, friends, our business, our communites, our class and our movement.

Our event at the Ufafabrik Wessen Zukunft?!, on 1st - 4th of April is cancelled. As a result all planned events will not take place: the premieres DestiNation Unknown, by Club Al-Hakawati and Apocalypse Yesterday, by NeXt Generation, the performance of La Plaga, by Teatro Trono and Kompanie X, as well as the discussion Wessen Geschichten werden erzählt?!, the FESTIWALLA ConferAction and the project SeeWall (MareMuro).

We send our solidary greetings to our friends of Teatro Trono from Bolivia, to Basta Theatre from Palestine,

Tra i Binari and Teatri di Vita from Italy.

They were going to join us for Wessen Zukunft?! and had to cancell they´re trips.

Our work continues: via telephoneconferences and chats. We are coordinating work, which can be done from home. and are learning and developing new  ways working together from distance.

In may we would like to present to you the outcome of  our latest plays, DestiNation Unknown and Apokalypse Yesterday! Depending on the situation and the conditions, they will be presented either in a classic form of stageplay... or otherwise in a nother form, digital, via livestream or whatever... we will find a way!

For the moment our local Homebase on Wiclefstraße in Moabit will stay closed.

Follow us digitally on Instagram and Facebook – for news and more – Our public relations team, Film X, our ensembles and several working committees are working together tightly to inform, animate, amuse and agitate you during quarantine or lockdown. ´Cause we as Theatre X have not ceased to exist but have adjusted to the situation:

- in order to protect eachother and serve our part of containing the spread of the virus, so that weight is taken off the healthcaresystem for times of intensification of the ilnesses spread – this is what is meant when said “flattening the curve“;

- in order to build networks, digitally or in other practical and creative ways and to maintain our structure – challenge accepted;

- in order to take care of each other, our communities and our neighbourhoods solidarily with support structures;

- in order to develope political and practical demands for total welfare for affected people, during as well as after this outbreak, and to connect and enforce together with others;

- in order to  develope a collective, political and cultural reaction to this crisis, the way of handling it and its causes, and to concentrate on other urging topics and conflicts, which, not Corona but, only we can overcome;

- in order to be well prepared for the times after Corona, which will present a sharpening of these old and some new conflicts.

CommUnity? Forever!
